About me - Anne Golla, Certified Advanced Rolfer
I believe in the therapies I offer because they are the approaches which helped me most personally, They provided not just temporary relief but lasting change and new insight into myself. Feeling that change, and seeing change in those I work with, motivates me to continue learning.
I started riding horses from the age of 5, which over time led to a lot of spills and bail-outs. I was having back pain by the time I was in my early 20's, and then sciatica. The standard therapies (sports doctor, physical therapy, standard massage) didn't help much and sometimes made it worse. No matter how much I stretched or strengthened individual muscles, or what exercises I did or avoided, the underlying issues were still there. As I delved more into different approaches, I found not just new techniques, but an entirely different way of understanding what the problem was and how to make things better. Instead of focusing on individual muscles or bones, these approaches - the ones I ended up studying in depth - all took the person as a complex, intelligent, dynamic and resilient organized system with enormous capacity for self-healing. Getting things to work together smoothly is less an mechanical question that one of body organization, awareness of the body and its environment, and communication within the body - they touch the core of who we are and how we experience ourselves as beings in a physical space,
Every person's path to feeling better in their body is different. There is no ideal body, only the individual bodies we have. I see my role as a therapist as being not to fix anything or impose my views on others, but to facilitate change and to empower people to help and heal themselves.

Teachers
Learning is an ongoing process, I have been privileged to learn from many great teachers, some of whom are pictured below, But the learning process depends just as much on learning from peers and from those I've worked with. Many others have helped me along the way and for that I am grateful.
Thai Bodywork
Ajahn Pichest Boonthume
|
I have had the great privilege to study with Ajahn Pichest Boonthume since 2010. Ajahn Pichest is an exceptional individual and teacher. He is largely self-taught - after doing a harder style of Thai massage for 10 years as a young man, his body was so worn out he couldn't walk without a cane. He dedicated himself to recovery which included both a deep introspection through meditation practice as well as single-handedly developing a style of bodywork which relies on natural postures and use of weight instead of force, and close listening to the body. Ajahn Pichest has been incredibly generous with his time and energy to me, and remains a primary influence in my practice beyond techniques or modalities, but on the essentials of how I orient my practice and my relationship to myself and to my approach to bodywork and to those I work with. Ajahn introduced me to Northern style Theravada meditation and how to understand and work with energy.
